Help! How do I create block indents in an AO3 story? Using the blockquote tag gives an ugly vertical line down the side, and I have wrapping text so I can't use a non-breaking space. A table didn't seem to work, but probably because I don't know how to specify an appropriate table width (can you specify a percentage width of the screen?). Can you insert CSS directly into where the story goes, or do I have to-- shudder!-- create some kind of special story-specific style sheet?

HELP. YULETIDE. BEARS.

ETA: Fixed due to everyone's awesome advice! ♥

Table is probably the best way to do it without CSS. Try something like this?

The Paragraph

OK, actually I just tested that and... it doesn't seem to work for me using % or px... which is odd, because "width" is totally an allowed attribute on the AO3, although I did just preview the draft & not post it, so maybe it would have worked if I posted it. But yeah, either that or using CSS to make an attribute for blockquotes, either "border-style-left : none" or "border-left : none" should work.

It might be because the table is 80% wide but still justified to the left. Try wrapping the whole thing in a
or just plain
.

Ha. Make that:

<div align=center></div> or just plain <center></center>

CSS that comes from a separate stylesheet or skin should not work in a download scenario. CSS that is inline with the HTML may actually hang around (it depends on how far they go when they generate the HTML). On the other hand, the blockquote tag I gave you (below) with the border turned off should work properly in both scenarios.

Give this a shot, also: instead of the normal blockquote, try <blockquote style="border: 0px;"></blockquote>. And sometimes <dl><dd>your content here</dd></dl> - but that depends on how those tags are styled by the site, and so it's more fragile.

I have no idea, but you should put in a support query as they may have an answer.
