tevere: neha has both the boys (OT3)
[personal profile] tevere
Dear Yuletider!

Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time and effort to create something for me! I'm easy to please, and my prompts are, of course, completely optional. I just wrote them in case you, like me, prefer to have a few jumping-off points rather than a completely blank slate to work from. I'll appreciate and be grateful for anything you produce in the fandom we've matched on, but if you're interested in further details about me:

I like:
- slash, het or gen
- gritty realism
- intense emotions
- AUs, retellings, subversions
- complicated relationships
- slow-build romances
- ambiguous moralities
- adult characters with adult problems
- bittersweetness
- extreme competence

I'm not so into:
- torture
- sexual violence
- embarrassment/humiliation
- sex involving bodily fluids
- werewolf or vampire AUs
- complete nihilism

Dostana (2008): Sam, Kunal, Neha
Optional prompts: What if one of the three receives an unexpected responsiblity or task and they all have to work together towards a serious or not-so-serious goal? What happens to Sam and Kunal after the end of the movie when Neha eventually moves out to live with Abhi? We've seen Sam's mother's reaction to Sam/Kunal, but could there be misunderstandings with Kunal's family, too? Sam and Kunal are both kind of immature and self-absorbed, so how would they deal with developing feelings for each other?

If you're interested, my Dostana squee post is here and the Sam/Kunal story I wrote for last year's Yuletide is here. I'd prefer slash, OT3 or friendship gen to Neha pairing off with just one of the boys, and if you do write Sam/Kunal I'd still prefer you treat Neha kindly, because I like her a lot. I love Sam's mum and aunty, so feel free to include them if you'd like! Dostana is kind of my happy-place fandom, so while I don't mind angst and hand-wringing, for the ending I guess I'd prefer something optimistic.

Liáo zhâi zhì yì | Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio - Pú Sônglíng: Any
Optional prompts: What about a modern day retelling of one of the strange tales? If you prefer to stick to the original settings, what about something fleshing out the details of a relationship between a human and a supernatural creature (or creatures)? Or perhaps you're interested in writing your own subversive, strange tale?

I'm only familiar with the Minford translation for Penguin, but if you're drawing from a translation please do feel free to use whichever one you're most comfortable with. I'm just interested to see what you do with this one, whether it's something loosely inspired by the concept of the 'strange tale', or something specific to one particular story. I do love the subversive nature and eroticism of these little stories, if that's an interest you share. Oh, and reincarnation is one of my favourite tropes! If you do decide to write something set in a different time or place, I'd prefer it if you kept the characters Chinese.

Looper (2012): Joe, Old Joe
Optional prompts: What does Joe do after he closes his loop, and how does he end up in China? What's everyday life like in future China and the future US, and what's the Rainmaker's role? How does Old Joe meet and form a relationship with his wife? What about a detailed look at Old Joe's character, and how his various experiences have changed his mindset and life philosophies from those of his younger counterpart? Are you interested in delving further into the headache-inducing timey-wimeyness of the premise, perhaps expanding on the mechanism of time travel or making sense of its inconsistencies?

I adore time travel stories and paradoxes, I'm interested in the future and the role China plays, and I'm curious about the path Joe took to become Old Joe. I know Old Joe's wife wasn't a nominated character, but if you were also interested, I'd love to get a sense of who she was as a person (and what her name was!), and how she ended up with Old Joe. If you do write something including Old Joe's wife, I do have a bit of a squick regarding sleazy old expats hitting on local women in bars, so anything you can do to acknowledge and then subvert that dynamic would be lovely. Otherwise, gen and/or worldbuilding and/or a Joe-centered character piece is, of course, very much A-OK!

4th & 5th Century RPF: Saint Augustine
Optional prompts: Interested in fleshing out the (slashy?) relationship between Augustine and his unnamed bosom friend who died, as related in his Confessions? Or a character piece illustrating his epic intellectual struggles with Christianity, before or after his conversion? How would Augustine react if he encountered (was tempted by?) supernatural beings either pre- or post-conversion, or if like Dante he got the opportunity to tour Heaven and Hell? What about an AU (modern day, futuristic, another culture/religion) involving an Augustine-like character struggling to reconcile his existing beliefs, scientific or otherwise, with his spiritual/religious yearnings?

This is an old request! It might help you to know that I'm an atheist, so I'm not going to be offended by anything on the religious front. My first encounter with Augustine was City of God, which I just loved for the sheer bloody-mindedness of its logic and determination. Some things about the Bible are contradictory, but by god Augustine will make them fit. He's so intelligent, so rigorous in his thought, that it makes the moment when he takes 'the leap' into what defies rational thought just that much more profound and affecting. I guess it's his intellectual struggle that fascinates me so, his heart versus his mind, so I would love to see that in a story, whether it be a simple character piece, longer gen, a slash romance, or an AU.

Thank you! ♥

Hello, interesting stranger! I'm not doing Yuletide this year but I have been going through the prompts and wanted you to know how THRILLED I am that you requested Augustine. I request him every year and nobody's ever filled it, so I'm hoping someone fills it for you so that I can skim a little off the top of your joy.

I don't really read Dreamwidth but if you want to hang out on LJ I'm [profile] whatifoundthere over there. Nice to meet you, and happy Yuletide :D
